Use of Didactic Methods in History, Geography and Social Science assessments: A perspective from the teaching profession

Abstract

This quantitative research analyzes the use of Didactics in the evaluation of History, Geography and Social Sciences in two schools in the city of Osorno. Six teachers were interviewed and questions related to the evaluation approach, the didactic resources used and the importance of linking the subject with the daily life of the students were used. The results show that teachers focus on the analysis of historical sources and the development of research skills. Multimedia projects and written exams are mainly used as didactic resources. In addition, it is considered important to link the subject with the daily life of the students. There is a tendency towards the use of formative assessment strategies and the importance of adapting curricular content for meaningful learning is recognized. In synthesized form, this research shows what students learn and how they learn, under the methods and techniques that the teacher considers appropriate according to the main focus to be evaluated.
