Abstract

The following paper aims to present an overview of the counselling services at the Spanish universities. First, the article provides the background about counseling services; secondly, it tries to define the general concept of counseling in the most accurate way in order to be able to understand what University counselling means. After that, the paper gives an insight into the Spanish counseling system, in particular, how it started and how it has evolved, but also going through the different functions and intervention areas developed by that this kind of services. Finally, the paper concludes with an outline showing how the ideal university counseling service should be.
